The Shibby

I have been hanging out in Busan, South Korea for the better part of a year. In that time I have experienced a whole lot of craziness...

Some Words of Wisdom

I've got a smile on my face, I've got four walls around me. The sun in the sky, the water surrounds me. I'll win now but sometimes I'll lose. I've been battered, but I'll never bruise, it's not so bad. And I say way-hey-hey, it's just an ordinary day, and it's all your state of mind. At the end of the day, you've still got to say, it's all right.

Last weekend we celebrated Christmas with a festive party, delicious eats, an epic quest and a bout of shenaniganz the likes which have never been seen. The night started out slow, we had trouble finding a cab after getting off the bus and were constantly butted in front of by Ahgumas (old ladies). This did not sit well with the other Koreans who shouted profane yet accurate things at them. We finally managed to find a cab and it turned out that our driver was a regular old Korean-Canadian. The guy had lived in Vancouver for a number of years and had visited cities all across the country, including Quebec City. He told me he was against Quebec's separation, good for him! We arrived at Sam and Jess' and began to indulge in the holiday spirit. We ate and drank festive beverages and foods, including some egg nog that Jess found some how despite its rarity in this part of the world. Some more of their friends began to arrive and the party was officially underway. We played a Secret Santa game whereby each person was assigned a number and as the game progressed each person was able to steal or open someone else's gift. I ultimately ended up with the greatest gift of all. It was an elaborately planned scavenger hunt that involved gum, soju, sun glasses, lasers and guns. The final prize was a $20 donation to the human fund, a volley ball, a foot ball, a wooden kendo sword and nunchucks. AMAZING RIGHT?! Following this we proceeded to the roof, the same roof where Danielle nearly lost her eye weeks earlier, and began to play with swords. The boys went up and engaged what quite possibly was the most dangerous, most awesome and most epic of all sword fights. When we were finished we lined up, side by side on top of railings that buckled under our immense might, held our swords high in the air over Korea and shouted our battle cries. It was epic. Afterwards we went back downstairs and met up with the girls who were ready to head out on the town. We went to Obrien's for a social brew and played some games. On our way out I noticed a flat bed trolley. It seemed like a smart idea to load Alex on and go for a joy ride, and guess what? it was! Well it was until another Ahguma came out and gave us the stink eye. Afterwards we went for some Toasta were we met an off duty policeman who than took several of us on a tour around Changwon looking for a Karaoke bar that he liked to frequent. I feel kinda bad for the guy because after hanging out there for only a short time we decided to call it a night and leave. The man paid our tab and we said goodnight. On our way home we began to throw the chestnuts at each other that the police man had bought us because we decided that they were disgusting and shouldn't be eaten anyways. We returned home and went to bed. The next day we essentially just hung out. We cleaned a bit, did some shopping, and I took Sam's scooter Rumble Bee for a ride around his parking garage. At work on Monday I decided to buy a suit, so later that day my manager helped me purchase a sweet one that ran me a total of $75 for the jacket, pants, cufflings and tie. I can't wait to wear my $75 suit with my $250 shoes that my company got me as a Christmas gift.
