The Shibby

I have been hanging out in Busan, South Korea for the better part of a year. In that time I have experienced a whole lot of craziness...

Some Words of Wisdom

I've got a smile on my face, I've got four walls around me. The sun in the sky, the water surrounds me. I'll win now but sometimes I'll lose. I've been battered, but I'll never bruise, it's not so bad. And I say way-hey-hey, it's just an ordinary day, and it's all your state of mind. At the end of the day, you've still got to say, it's all right.

This weekend the gang assembled with one mission in mind, to conquer the tallest mountain in all the land. With shoes on our feet and socks on our hands we were ready. Some of us were sick with colds and others were deprived of sleep, but we did it. We climbed 801.5 meters that day, roughly twice the height of the CN Tower. Our base camp for the climb was Beomeosa Temple, one of the largest and oldest temples in this part of South Korea. Its foundation dates as far back as the early 800's A.D. and has been continuously occupied since. Approximately 1.2 KM up the side of this mountain is the remains of a fortress wall. This wall proved little resistance for our mighty expeditionary force. After we overcame this obstacle we refilled our water bottles at the local spring and continued our trek upwards. Within the next half hour we had managed to reach the summit. The winds were angry that day my friends. After nearly being blown off the top of this mighty rock we found a small crevice that sheltered us from the winds and allowed us to indulge in the fruits of our accomplishments. After a rapid decent from the mountain we found our way to a Tak'Galbi restaurant where we enjoyed a delicious social meal to celebrate our momentous feat. After a few drinks and a few laughs we headed home to my place for some soju and games. Afterward we found our way to the local Guri bar where we played some beer pong (possibly my worst game ever) and enjoyed a good time. Unfortunately some of the house rules were changed since our last visit which made it much harder to wrestle and play music that didn't make everyone depressed. Afterwards we out for dinner number 2 and packed it in for the day. I spent the next day sleeping away my pains and enjoying the first real lazy day I have had since I arrived in Korea. As always, there are photos on my Picasa. Check it out.
